greedy mole eyes

it's the bread!

Bread makes a sandwich. I love a demi baguette. Mayo, sometimes mustard, meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, maybe avocado. Simple favorite.

I bought an ebike a few weeks back, I figured I would use it for groceries and getting around. I'm an avid cyclist already with a favorite gravel bike (a Surly Straggler, natch) but it's mostly for taking long rides, getting time outside, and exercise. The ebike was intended to be a "get on and go" thing. It's a decent model, a Lectric Xpress 750, I liked that it shipped direct to me and that I can use my existing repair stand. But what I really like is how much my husband enjoyed it!

So now, I've had to go buy my own ebike - I'm currently waiting on my LBS to build a Surly Skid Loader and I'm very excited. In the meantime, we've gotten out almost every night for a ride in varying conditions. It's been hovering around 55-60 with clouds and light rain, like a slow cold front is moving through. We'd both like more sunlight but just getting out is good enough. We even rode up to a brewery about 5 miles away, and it's so strange and joyful to see my husband outside (he does not like bugs, sweating, or too many people) doing an activity that is normally solo for me. I know he'll never be my hiking/backpacking buddy and that's fine, so this has been really quite a treat.

I feel antsy for late spring to become early summer, I'm tired of feeling chilly. Things will get a bit more hectic in town as kids get off school and people just want to be outside more, so that is one benefit of bad weather - fewer folks on the trail. Still, nothing beats long days and tired legs at hiker midnight with friends. No trips planned as of yet but I'm sure we'll get some good bag nights this summer. I might even try for some bikepacking!

Outside of bikes, life has been good. Work has been especially good, I'm really proud of my team, I'm enjoying a lot of what we're doing, we're making some good hires, my boss has been the single best hire we've ever made, we're meeting goals, I'm making hay while the sun shines. Speaking of, with the sun rising stupid early, it's been nice to get up and start my day a few hours before most everyone else is online. It's been a good period of productivity after what was a difficult start to the year. I'd had to let a manager go, which meant I was directly managing 11 people and 4 more indirectly. We also lost one of our most talented and hardest working engineers. But the team has pulled together and risen to the challenge. We're not out of the woods yet but I really like what we've become.

My boss was remarking today, it's good that work is going well when everything around us feels like it's collapsing into shit. Amen to that.
